Where can I advertise volunteer opportunities free of charge?

Mel asked:

Hi, I have just set up a small sustainable tourism project in Northern Thailand. We are NOT an ngo/foundation/charity but run several community projects one of which is to find foreign volunteers for hilltribe schools. Does anyone know of websites where I can advertise volunteer opportunities for free? ( I already use Craigslist and Idealist)? Or how I can find volunteers?
Thanks,

There’s an organization called the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies (AAN). Many of the “City Paper” newspapers are members, such as the (Washington) DC City Paper. They have a “volunteers wanted” section of the newspaper, and you can submit an ad for free.

I’d do a yahoo search on AAN to see who their members are, and they select which publications to target.

    Good luck!

Contact many city newspapers and ask if a reporter will interview you about your project. It could go in the Travel Section or Human Interest.
