Losing Fat Fast With This Sport

Author: Robt Montelle  |  Category: traveling in thailand

Over the years, I have amassed a great collection of exercise videos and DVDs. My collection consists of everything from aerobics to step aerobics to toning and even kickboxing. Out of all them, by far, the kickboxing DVD, 10 Minute Solution – Kickbox Bootcamp, gives me the best workout and produces the best results.

Lead by instructor Keli Roberts, this 54 minute DVD is broken down into five 10-minute segments, each of which are designed to help burn calories and sculpt the body. The 10-minute segments allow you to choose how long your workout will be each time. This is especially helpful if you are pressed for time and cannot complete the total 50-minute workout. I often find myself picking two segments for a quick, but intense 20-minute workout. Even with just a 20-minute workout, I am sweating by the time I am done.

Segment One – Basic Training

In this segment Keli goes over the basic punches, jab, cross, hook, and upper. She demonstrates the proper stance to form each punch, while giving pointers on movement and posture. You perform the boxer shuffle and simulate jumping rope. This segment gets you warmed up for the other segments.

Segment Two – Ultimate Buns and Thighs

While holding hand weights you perform front and side lunges to get the lower part of your body limbered up for front and sidekicks. This routine works your lower body, including the buttocks, thighs, and legs.

Segment Three – Arms and Shoulders Sculptor

With the use of lightweights, (I use two-pound hand weights), Keli takes you through the punches learned in the first segment. She reinstates the proper procedure for pivoting when following through on a punch.

Segment Four – Fat Burning Blast

This is by far, to me, the hardest segment of the workout. The first exercise, a stand to a squat to a plank and then back up again, starts slowly but then speeds up. There is some jumping and sliding side to side. This segment will get the heart pumping and your metabolism burning fat.

Segment Five -Washboard Abs

Crunches that work the upper and lower abs and obliques are incorporated along with some Pilate moves for a routine that will help you obtain that washboard look.

Another thing I like about this DVD is that you can mix the different segments so that you exercise different parts of your body on different days. Mondays and Wednesdays would be Basic Training with Ultimate Buns and Thighs, while Tuesdays and Thursdays would be Arms and Shoulders Sculptor, and Washboard Abs.

Note: Light hand weights are required (I use two pounders), and a floor mat. Each segment has about a minute warm up and cool down that includes stretching and breathing movements.

Why You Should Train Boxing

Author: Enrique Komara  |  Category: traveling in thailand

Not long ago, I felt that I was getting a bit overweight. It didn’t come as a surprise to me considering my diet and exercise was poor and non-existent.

I found a new exercise program in my area and decided to try a Kickboxing class at my local YMCA. I am so glad that I did! I fell in love with it the first day!

All I needed to begin was a pair of $5 hand wraps that I purchased from a local sporting goods store and a pair of good supportive tennis shoes. Oh- and a good sports bra, but I already owned several of those.

We spent the first 20 minutes of class doing an aerobics warm-up. We did kicks, air-punches, jumping jacks and push-ups. The next 20 minutes, we spent on the bags. What a great stress-reliever! We punched, pummeled, kicked and elbowed the bag in a variety of different maneuvers. I was dripping with sweat by the end of the segment but I felt exhilarated. We spent the last 20 minutes doing sit-ups, crunches, squats and lunges.

Kickboxing makes me feel empowered as a woman. I have learned so many defensive moves that I know I would be able to utilize if I had to. I have become so much stronger just in the past two months. The American Council on Exercise determined that you burn approximately 6.45 to 8.3 calories a minute while Kickboxing. For a 60 minute class, this means that you would burn 387-498 calories. That in itself is a good reason to try the class.

In addition, Kickboxing is interesting. It keeps your mind stimulated during the class rather than going through a bunch of mindless memorized motions. You truly start to feel empowered because you feel stronger every week. This is a great class and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to lose weight, get stronger or just get moving.

Kickboxing Aerobics

Author: Nilda Mithell  |  Category: traveling in thailand

Moving your body like in kickboxing, burns a lot of calories. That’s why Aerobic kickboxing is an awesome way to lose weight and get fit, whilst not actually having to fight anyone!

Aerobic kickboxing starts just like any other kind of aerobic exercise, with a five to ten minutes of warm-up. After that, it would be the kicking and punching which would end up with another five minute cool-down. This aerobic exercise combines martial-arts, self-defense, boxing and music. A person who is performing this would be able to learn the basics of these parts. For example, basic boxing stance is taught. Punches like jabs and hooks, kicks like side kicks are taught.

Kickboxing is thought to have originated from Muay Thai. But aside from the Thai boxing influences, aerobic kickboxing also uses karate skills to develop flexibility, strength and endurance in one cardiovascular exercise. Those who practice aerobic kickboxing would also testify that it was able to help them build their self-confidence, self-esteem, self-control and develop a positive attitude towards exercising and work-out.

In addition to that, it can also reduce levels of stress and increase the individual’s stamina and energy. Imagine, learning self-defense and keeping your personal fitness in check in an hour or less in a day. But as great as it is, there should be considerations before practicing aerobic kickboxing.

* Your personal level of fitness.

Aerobic kickboxing is a high-impact aerobic routine. Those who are suffering from arthritis, tight hamstrings and inflexible back can have difficulties with this routine. And always consider getting your doctor’s advice before proceeding with any kind of exercise program especially if you have an existing medical condition.

* Consider your level of expertise.

If it is your first time to do such workout, then you could always get a beginning class. After being familiar with it, you could start progressing into intermediate and advance levels. If working out with a CD/DVD or tape at home, then pay attention to the instructions and start and do the workout according to your own pace. There are moves like high-kicks which should be avoided by beginners. These moves would require flexibility which would be developed later on when you have already gotten used to the routine.

* Hydrate.

Always drink water before, during and after the workout.

* If the CD or the class runs for more than an hour, you are not obligated to workout for the entire period. An hour of aerobic exercise is enough.

* Wear clothes that would not restrict the flow of movements while exercising. Loose-fitting clothes could be a problem sometimes.

Killer Fat Burning Exercise Routine

Author: Angeline Norfleet  |  Category: traveling in thailand

If you are like me, you are always looking for a new workout to try. Whether it’s because you are bored, or because what you are currently doing is not working, I have found the best new workout to try if your gym offers it.

It is called Turbo Kick and it is a high intensity, high energy and extremely fun way to do kick boxing. It brings kick boxing to a whole new level. There are three parts about Turbo Kick that makes it an unique, fun and great workout.

The first part is the music. Now I have always needed music playing when I work out. Whether I’m in an aerobics class or doing the elliptical, I need energetic music to keep me going. Well, Turbo Kick has some of the best music I have ever heard in an aerobics class. It is fast, has a great beat all the way through and it makes you feel like there’s a party going on. It definitely does a good job of keeping you motivated to keep going.

Another part of Turbo Kick that makes it so much fun to do, are the kick boxing routines themselves. Since this is an all cardio class, you work every single part of your body, from head to toe. And the best part is you do the same routine over a period of two to three months, so you have time to get the routine down really well and really make it work for you.

In the beginning of the routine, you have your warm up, then you move onto the first of several upper and lower body kick boxing moves and then you start the Turbo section. The Turbo section is where you do a one to two minute interval of high intensity moves as many times as the instructor allows. After you have done Turbo, there’s the recovery and then the finale. And if you want an ab workout, the wheel move and the zig-zag move will make those love handles disappear in no time!

Finally, the third and best part of Turbo Kick is the way it makes you feel after the class is over. It makes you feel great. You walk out of there standing a bit straighter and feeling like you can take on anything that is thrown at you. I always make sure to do Turbo Kick in the beginning of the week because it sets the tone for the rest of the week. If I have a good Turbo workout, I know my week has started out great.

I encourage you, if you have Turbo Kick available at your gym, to take the class sometime. Anyone can do it, even if you are not in great shape. They show you low impact moves that you can do throughout the class. If you do Turbo Kick a few times a week, you will see a huge change in your body and you’ll have a great time doing it.

Last 4 in Contender

Author: Marcie Vellucci  |  Category: traveling in thailand

In a surprise knockout, Soren Mongkontong lost his fight against Dzhabar Askerov in episode 12 of The Contender Asia. Mongkontong was the favorite to be the last Muay Thai fighter to go through to the semi-finals, but his hopes were dashed when he was knocked out in the first round by Askerov. Knockouts in Muay Thai fights are very rare and this was a shocker. Askerov hit Mongkontong once with a strong right hook and knocked him down. When he got up, it was obvious the punch had rattled him as he was staggering and looking dizzy. Within less than a minute, Dzhabar came at him again and this time, with another punch, he knocked him down and also knocked him out. When he came around, it was to the knowledge that Dzhabar Askerov was the winner of the fight, and the last Muay Thai fighter to go through to the semi-final round.

The final four fighters in The Contender Asia semi-finals are:

Sean Wright – From Scotland, Sean Wright has been training in Muay Thai gyms in Bangkok and Chiang Mai in Thailand. He’s had some very successful Muay Thai fights in Thailand and, even though he was the last fighter picked for a team in the first episode of The Contender Asia, he’s shown everyone he really is a world class fighter.

John Wayne Parr – Probably the most famous farang (Western) Muay Thai fighter in the world, John Wayne Parr had an amazing fight against Zidov Dominik, to get through to the semi-finals. From Australia, John Wayne began fighting Muay Thai at the age of 11, and eventually moved to Thailand where he has lived and trained on and off for many years. He’s also an instructor at a top Australian Muay Thai gym. Along with Yodsaenklai of Thailand, he is expected to end up in the finale fight.

Yodsaenklai – Thai fighter Yodsaenklai is the favorite to win The Contender Asia’s first season final fight. He fought the other fighter from Thailand, Naruepol, to end up in the semi-finals. He has already beaten John Wayne Parr once, in 2005, to win the World Muay Thai 154lb division title so, in a finale fight between him and Parr, he is likely to be the favorite to win.

Dzhabar Askerov – currently lives in the United Arab Emirates and won his way into the semi-finals by knocking out Soren Mongkontong. He has trained in Russia and, although not the best fighter technically, he definitely dishes out some strong punches. If his fight against Mongkontong is anything to go by, his semi-finals fight could have some surprises.

With these four fighters in The Contender Asia’s final four, the semi-finals should be thrilling to watch. They will be played out in the next episode of The Contender Asia, with the finale held in Singapore on April 12th. This is The Contender Asia’s first season, but with such an exciting line up for the final four, this Muay Thai reality show is likely to be around for a long time.
