Every Laotian ‘ household in the world cook and eat sticky rice everyday, instead of bread, or Jasmine rice.

u dont use salt?
April 4th, 2009 at 7:31 pm
You can use salt to lower the boiling point of the water use to steam the rice. Salt is not generally used in Laos/Thailand to make Sticky Rice.

It’s the type of rice glutinous, sweet or sticky(all the same just different names) that is used. Not the same as jasmine rice. Hope that helps.

Yes Sticky Rice is Actually Lao food. Who eats in a Lao restaurant or even knows where one is? Esarn people (Lao heritage) in Thailand eat sticky rice. Known locally as kao neaw (?????????).
I’ve asked for sticky rice in a Thai Restaurant before and was told “not Lao Restaurant”. Just trying to make it simple. The Pope

I never knew you could re-steam to get it back basically to normal. My dad just microwaves when it’s a day or two old so it doesn’t feel or taste the same. This was a good tutorial for making kao neaw.

When my sticky rice is almost cooked I pour some coconut milk right on top of the sticky rice. When it’s cooked there’s a sweet coconut favor to it but not strong. You should give it a try.

I’m new at making sticky rice so please don’t think I’m dumb for asking but for step one do you cook the rice then soak or do you soak instead of cooking?
September 12th, 2009 at 7:32 pm
You soak the rice before you start cooking. Remember, cooking is steaming not boiling. This is not regular white rice like jasmine. Ask for sticky, sweet or glutinous rice from your local Asian store.
