Thailand, huh? You sure that “lady” friend of yours is really a lady?

  2. chrisarrow222 Says:

Yes, but add up the total cost of living there first. Although cheap, it may not be as cheap as what you think.

Look at health care. The overall standard of living. And consider that the standard of English is much lower than here in Philippines, where English is very widely spoken.

Depends also where you will live.

And politically Thailand has been fairly unstable in recent years, although it probably won’t affect you.

My personal experience of living in the Phils as a retiree, is that the Phils is better. But it’s close.

Excuse my ignorance but my impression of Thailand is not good.
HIV is rampant, young girls pretending to be 18 years old offering themselves to wealthy dirty old western men. Ladyboys everywhere.
The morality and sober minded conscience is questionable.

To retire alone and get a Thai wife?
Or to retire with your family?

both thailand and philippines have their advantages and disadvantages.

Philippines has more english speaking people
Thailand has less crime and better law enforcement.
Thailand is less “3rd world” than the philippines.
Philippines has lower cost of living (but lower standard of living).
The drive on the right side of the road in the Philippines. (try crossing the street late at night while drunk in thailand!!)
    Thailand has much better infrastructure.
    Philippines has faster internet.

both have pretty girls. both have prostitutes. both have AIDS. Filipinas seem more interested in long term relationship to escape their country. Thais generally want to remain in thailand and are less interested in long term relationships with foreigners.

Why are you asking this here in Travel Philippines?
Of course I will tell you that the Philippines would be a better choice because I’m filipino and I love my country. What do we know about Thailand? Good luck. Hope you find a good place. :D

Hi Mark, you might consider Cebu, Philippines as a great place for enjoying your well-deserved retirement. Compared to other places in Asia, cost of living in Cebu is low. It’s peaceful and pretty much comfortable to live in with modern facilities & varied dining, entertainment, shopping venues, not to mention pristine beaches and warm & very friendly English-speaking population. It’s a growing metropolis too but not crowded. As for living in Cebu, mid to high rise condominium’s are ideal for foreigners to live in as these are open for foreigners to buy or for investment purposes, like renting it to others.
