I had six by-passes and am considering retiring in Thailand but I am afraid that heart specialists might be few and far between.

I thnik not so – I believe that Bangkok Hospital in Bangkok has a special new heart section – you should google around and check. I did get a very thorough heart check-up in Bkk several years ago, blood to stress test – etc etc – took half a day and the hospital was amazing. I have never seen one like it in USA – though I would not claim to have seen many – some in New York City – good ones that did not compare s far as spiffy looking – not sure my knowledge goes much beyond that.

If you are out in the countryside – forget it. I would guess that Bkk, CM and some of the high tourist spots will have comparable medical –

I just spoke with a friend in USA and he said it takes 3-4 months to get an appt to see his doctor – I have taken friends to Bumrungrad and never waited more than 45 minutes, blood test results in a few hours..

My cardiology doctor is from Bumrungard Hospital, he trained in the USA. I don’t have any of the problems you have but he was recommended to me by my wife’s uncle who’s a surgeon there also. His name is Dr. Chotikorn Khunnawat Here is the website to the hospital you can search the doctors and look at each one

I also spend time as an inpatient in the orthopedic ward, Only thing different then being in an hospital in America is the pretty nurses speak limited English.

Other Hospitals I would recommend are BNH hospital and Bangkok Hospital Heart Center

When a doctor in the US screws up in a lawsuit you get millions of dollars.
In Thailand when a doctor screws up in a lawsuit you get millions of baht – maybe!

Both my doctor and dentist here in BKK studied and are certified in the USA. They don’t pay malpractice insurance, so I pay about 1/10 of the cost of health care than in the USA. And, people ask me why I don’t move back….DUH!

Thailand is a country with very good doctors. Doctors in Thailand need to be very smart, talented, and well-educated people only. We have one of the world’s best medical school. Also, we have a lot of specialists in various fields. My mom is a doctor, and she has friends in all fields including cardiology. The doctors are very devoted to their jobs, and the government keeps the quality of the doctors high. We focus on quality, but of quatity of doctors. Medicine in Thailand is second to none, in my opinion. Don’t worry. You will be able to find a lot of cardiologists and surgeons there.

In general the private medical care in Thailand is world class. There are also several outstanding cardiac centers at the major private hospitals like Bumrungrad and others. In fact, Thailand is a major destination for medical tourists for bypass surgery.
