First question should be do you make $1,800 a month to qualify for a retirement visa.
If not your stuck in the Philippines like the rest of us.

You need at least a monthly income of $1,500+ a month, last time I checked.Plus money in the bank.Rent is cheap.

I have been investigating this myself because I have the same plan. You can rent a one bedroom house or apt. for about 10/15,000 baht per month, depending on what amenities you want (pool, security, etc) and how close (more expensive) or how far (less expensive) you want to live from downtown. Water and electric are extra. As would be maid service. And, of course, you could pay more or less, but the price I gave you is ballpark for investigations I’ve made. A good site to check out is. I think the rentals at this site are the most expensive and will give you a good idea of the most you would have to pay.

You should get a retirement Visa, since you are over 55 years old now. To qualify for a retirement visa, you should at least have THB 800.00.00 in a Thai Bank or a pension of THB 65.000.00 per month. If you prefer to live in the provinces, like Chiang Mai, you can get a modest one bedroom apartment from BHT 10,000.00 up, depending on your choice and specification. Bangkok is a little more expensive. Chiang Mai is a very beautiful and slow faced city with friendly people and many speak good English, with modern facilities.

It is probably not a good idea to retire in a country that does not want you. Thailand wants “high quality tourists”.

Translation: Visit, spend lots of money; then go home.
