Uday asked:

Hello all,

I am planning for a 15 day visit to Thailand and I am planning to spend about a week in Chiang Mai area.

I am planning to see temples, spend a day at elephant sanctuary and do some day trips out of Chiang Mai or visit one of the hill tribes if possible. I am also planning to rent a bike and do some trips out of Chiang Mai.

I want to know how is the weather like in Chiang Mai in mid July? Is it a good idea to visit in July?

Thanks.

The quick answer to the question is that the weather will be hot and wet. The warmest part of the year will have passed but the yearly rainy season will have begun. It’s about the lowest part of the year for tourists. November through February is the more popular time of year for visiting.

But… there will still be some good days and there is always plenty of things do. Just be flexible with your planning and take advantage of the nice days for when to rent the bike.

The weather is wet, but usually a flash downpour that lasts about half an hour with lighter rain following it for about 20 minutes.

It is hot, but not as hot as other parts of Thailand.

Sounds like a good itenerary to me, and July is ideal for what you want to do. If you are a photographer of any sort- you will be really happy taking photos at the temples.

As far as the hilltruibes go- those are human petting zoos. Its definitely not my thing, but otherwise it sounds like you will have a great time.

    enjoy your trip
