moving to thailand
classact asked:

Im a final year student studying computer science in the UK. I have been offered a job at a worldwide company. I am looking to go and work in their Thailand office if they let me. I have a few questions:

-Would I be able to get paid my salary in British pounds (instead of Thai Baht) into a British Account. (So I would get a British Salary instead of a Thai Salary = more money)

-How easy would it be for me to move to thailand like this? Would it be easy to get a visa? What other difficulties might I have?

Not sure why you asking here and not the company. I seen company pay both ways, it’s up to the company, also visa and work permit should be arranged by the company if they assign you here. You shouldn’t have any problems company should arrange it all. I think maybe if you haven’t been here before you should come and see if Thailand is right for you and you right for Thailand.

It doesn’t matter what currency you get paid in as long as it is enough for you.

Thai Baht if you got paid 1 billion Baht it would be more than a 100GBP.

A worldwide Company normally pays you in what they work in EG Euros, USD or GBP not normally the local currency.

Your visa is completed by your employer if they say to get your own work permit then stay clear they are too many pitfalls to be coming over here without a work visa for some-one as young as yourself.

To move to Thailand it is the same as moving to Spain you hop on a plane and when you get off your here.

The main points are Get a proper VISA, Get a proper WORK PERMIT.

If you do get paid in GBP make sure you sign up for a Nationwide hole if the wall cards Flexi Accounts (2off) sign up for Internet Banking. Get at least 2 separate Credit Cards.

Be careful which currency you get paid in. This is a very important consideration for most foreign workers and just because you get paid in Pounds doesn’t mean you’ll be getting more money, you need to check the currency exchange rate to see what is most advantageous. If you get paid in Pounds you will be subject to currency swings and the amount you get paid will vary from pay period to pay period. The pound has been falling quite a bit lately against most currencies and anybody who gets paid in pounds has seen their pay (after conversion) dropping lately, of course it could work the other way around if the pound strengthens. You may not have a choice of which type of currency you’re paid in, but many expats do negotiate which currency they are paid in.
This website helps to explain the procedure to obtain a work permit, there are many procedures you must follow, but most employers will handle most of the paperwork for you. Good luck.

It isn’t easy to get a job in Thailand being foreigners and newly-grad, but if you’re experienced in the fields that are lacking in Thailand, yes there’re high chancees that companies here will hired you. From my experiences, foreign companies are offerring to pay in several currencies especially MNCs.
There’re many software companies hiring specific computer langages programmer personnel but all that I know of are highly experienced. The one I know are in Credit card business with their mother company from the US, but the one that hire is based in Australia. They interviewed me and offerred to pay in three currencies; Thai baht, US dollars and Aussy dollars. So I guess, it depends on the negotiation. The truth is you won’t be getting higher pays because of the differences in currencies; they just convert what they want to give you in those currencies; it’s for your convenience in spending for your morgage or other dependents at home only. Hope that helps.
In addition, foreigners are hired in proportion to Thai people in a company; I forgot the percentage, but yes there’re rules on that to protect Thai employment.

Salary : You have to talk with the company who employ you to work in Bangkok.

Visa : It not hard to get tourist Visa. It is much harder to get long term Visa and work in Thailand as you need to have Work Permit to get such a Visa. To get Work Permit you have to ask the company to issue a letter for you to certify that your qualification is really needed and cannot find any body in Thailand who posses that attribute, so the company need you.

Have a great time in Thailand,
