where can i find volunteer work in thailand where all i pay for is travel,food and accom?no extras?

i will be in bangkok in december and am paying for my own accomodation and food but would like to do some sort of volunteer work whilst i am there.in england i am a forklift operator and work on many building sites.i have some plumbing skills and am fluent english.
i have looked at various websites that offer volunteer work abroad but charge thousands of pounds to do it?
i figure if i am there already maybe i can help.would like to travel to more remote areas to maybe teach english/build?
any info/advice would be greatly apreciated.
